This year I decided to be absolutely INSUFFERABLE about my birthday. I had three parties.
My parents came to town on the actual day (December 5th…write it down), my other friends came from LA and PA and Brooklyn (obviously) and we got a karaoke room in ktown and for the grand finale, I threw a party at the venue (The Marlotte) that my roommate and I curate (it’s our apartment…we have a neon sign and no couch) called 27 Minutes in Heaven <3 because I cannot resist a pun.
With every passing birthday the desire to listen to my intrusive and insulting thoughts grows stronger: What do I even have to show for my life? Why did I overdraw my bank account (again) when my peers have savings and investments and 401ks? Why is it so hard to find love and what do I even want in that department? (I think I might finally know…) My career isn’t in the place I want it to be and do I even have the chance to grow it in an industry and culture so obsessed with youth? Yadda yadda yadda…
But, then I think of all the beautiful things that my 26th year has brought me. New friends, deeper friendships with old ones, a big dash of self-growth, a respite and realignment with alcohol, a therapist who is helping me reconnect with my body and who used to be on Broadway, a transformative solo trip to Mexico City, a new joy for music and writing and CREATION, a serving job that I actually like, the most inspiring acting class, learning to enjoy MORNINGS, I could go on!
…but I won’t. All of this to say, this year my world has busted wide open with so many new feelings and experiences that I have no choice but to believe that with every year that goes by, my life keeps getting better and better. So thank you to all of you reading this who have doubtless contributed to one of the best years of my life.
THAT BEING SAID, another big theme of this year has been “indie sleaze” lol and if we’re going to talk about indie sleaze, here I am, armed with a digital camera and a dream of bringing back the Facebook album. So I made a website where you can view all the photos from the party here <3
LASTLY, I want to give a huuuuuuge thank you to the NASTY, the LEGENDARY, and the forever ICONIC Eva Loveless, Soler System and Forever Early for keeping the party bumping all night long. And to you, my angels, who made it absolutely FAMOUS.
xoxo,
Charlotte
